Installation / Activation of particleIllusion 3.0.7 for OS X

To install and use particleIllusion 3.0.7 for Mac OS X, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Mac OS X 10.2.8 or higher
  
• Intel or PowerPC processor at 1.0 GHz or faster
  
• 256 MB RAM (1 GB recommended)
  
• Video card with OpenGL support; 1024x768 min. resolution; 32 bit color depth
  

particleIllusion will run on slower computers, but performance will be poor, especially with more complex emitters.



To install particleIllusion 3.0:

1. Double-click the installer file to launch it.
   
2. The installation program will ask you to accept the license agreement. Read the agreement and click agree to continue.
   
3. Select the location where particleIllusion will be installed. (The default location is in the "Applications / particleIllusion 3.0" folder) 
4. particleIllusion will be installed, showing the installation progress as files are copied. When the files are finished copying, installation will be complete.

After installing you can run particleIllusion 3.0 from your Applications folder.


In addition to particleIllusion 3.0, the following applications will be installed:

• pIllusionRender, the standalone renderer for particleIllusion project files. You should not need to launch pIllusionRender unless you want to do batch rendering of projects. pIllusionRender may be launched automatically by particleIllusion if needed (for high resolution output).
• particleView, our emitter viewer application. Has a very useful emitter search engine.
• pIRenderBatch, a simple utility application used for batch rendering with pIllusionRender.
• wtupdate -- This application is called by particleIllusion as part of the "check for updates" and should never be launched manually.

Uninstalling particleIllusion 3.0

To uninstall particleIllusion 3.0, pIllusionRender, pIRenderBatch, particleView, and all related files, just delete the "particleIllusion 3.0" folder from your "Applications" folder.

Note that if you've created or edited any emitter libraries, you may want to make a backup of them first.

Note: Uninstalling may not remove your activation. If you need to deactivate see the "Deactivation" section below.



Activation

After installation, particleIllusion 3.0 must be activated. Activation must be done by Internet, but can be done from any computer that has an Internet connection -- the computer where particleIllusion 3.0 is installed does not need to have an Internet connection.

When the program is run before it is activated the following dialog is shown:



It contains the "request number" that will be used when you activate, as well as a clickable link to the activation website.


Here are the activation steps in more detail:

To activate the software when the particleIllusion computer has an Internet connection:

1. Click the "click here to activate online" link. You'll be taken to the activation website.
2. Enter your serial number (copy and paste it if possible), your name, email address and company name (if applicable). This information may be the only way we have of connecting your serial number to you, so please double-check all entries. Consider this to be "registration" of your software as well as activation.
3. If the request number from the activation dialog is not shown already (it should be entered automatically for you) paste it into the website (it should have been copied to the clipboard automatically). You should always use Copy and Paste instead of trying to type these manually.
4. Click the "Send" button and copy the generated Activation Code.
5. Paste the Activation Code into the appropriate area in particleIllusion's activation dialog. To display the activation dialog again, you may need to select each open application in turn and "hide" it until the activation dialog is visible. Selecting particleIllusion 3.0 and using "hide others" will not work.
6. Click the "Activate Now" button.

To activate the software when the particleIllusion computer does not have an Internet connection:

1. Click the "click here to activate online" link. Your web browser should open (even though you don't have an Internet connection).
2. Copy and paste the URL shown in your browser into TextEdit (or any other text editing program).
3. Save the text document and copy it to a flash drive, CD, or whatever device you use to move files between your computers.
4. Using any computer that does have an Internet connection, open a web browser, copy the link from the text document and paste it into your browser. You should be taken to the activation website.
5. Enter your serial number (copy and paste it if possible), your name, email address and company name (if applicable). This information may be the only way we have of connecting your serial number to you, so please double-check all entries. Consider this to be "registration" of your software as well as activation.
6. If the request number from the activation dialog is not shown already (it should be entered automatically for you) paste it into the website (you can copy the request number from the link in the text document).
7. Click the "Send" button and copy the generated Activation Code.
8. Paste the Activation Code into the appropriate area in particleIllusion's activation dialog. To display the activation dialog again, you may need to select each open application in turn and "hide" it until the activation dialog is visible. Selecting particleIllusion 3.0 and using "hide others" will not work.
9. Click the "Activate Now" button.

The "Request Number" is machine-specific (is different on every computer) so the Activation Code resulting from it will only work on the computer that generated that Request Number.

Once particleIllusion has been Activated, the activation dialog will no longer be displayed when particleIllusion starts.

Closing the Activation Dialog

If you can't complete the Activation process, you can close the activation dialog by clicking the "Activate Later" button. This will result in the following error message being displayed:



particleIllusion will not run until it is activated.

Do not close or force quit particleIllusion when the activation dialog is showing. To close the activation dialog you need to click the "activate later" button.

Activation Errors

Different error messages are possible even after activation, and are usually caused by missing or corrupted activation files, or trying to use files that were activated on another computer. If you are seeing different error messages and cannot activate or get particleIllusion to run after activation, contact wondertouch support.

Do not copy the "particleIllusion.ticket" file from another computer. It will not work, and will require you to contact wondertouch with the ticket reset procedure.

Deactivation and Ticket Reset

To remove activation from a computer (for instance if you are selling the computer)

1. Uninstall particleIllusion (see section above)
2. Delete the following file:
   
   Users / Shared / Ticket / particleIllusion.Ticket

If you need to reset your ticket (ONLY AFTER CONTACTING WONDERTOUCH SUPPORT):

1. Hold the Ctrl+Shift keys when launching particleIllusion
2. You will see the "reset dialog" which is similar to the activation dialog
3. contact wondertouch support and paste the request number shown in the reset dialog (the request number should have automatically been placed on the clipboard).

Activation on Multiple Computers

In environments with multiple users we require one particleIllusion license per computer, so if you want to install particleIllusion on 2 computers, you need to purchase 2 licenses.

In environments with a single user, you can install and activate particleIllusion on multiple computers, but only if 1) you personally own the computers, and 2) you are the only one using particleIllusion on these computers.

Each serial number is allowed 2 activations (meeting conditions above); if you need more than this (due to reinstalls, new computer purchases, etc.) contact wondertouch.
